About Sue's Session
In this creative session, we will explore the epistolary form. Epistles have been popular for centuries as a means for poets to express everything from love to politics to apologies for having eaten the last plums in the fridge. Epistles balance the private and the public, the personal and the political, in ways unlike any other. Workshop attendees will read inspiring examples of the form from a cross-section of classic and contemporary poets—including Emily Dickinson, Major Jackson, Sonia Sanchez, Yolanda Wisher, and others.
If you have something you’ve been meaning to say to your best friend, your god, your boss, the city of Philadelphia, the president, or anything else really, join this workshop. Simple exercises and short poems will be provided. No previous poetry writing experience necessary.
